It’s easy to lose count of how many methods there are to get backlinks to your website but there are some that are consistently used by the top marketers and should be in your toolbox.
Backlinks, or inbound links as they’re sometimes called, are the lifeblood of your search engine rankings. Search engines such as Google use backlinks as a key part of their algorithms in calculating just how important each and every page on your website is out of the billions in its index.
So. let’s have a look at Five ways you can rocket up the rankings with effective backlinks.
1. Article Distribution – Google loves well written and useful content. Write great articles and either offer them to other websites or quality article directories such as this one and place links either within the articles themselves or in the Author info area at the bottom. This is a cheap method of gaining backlinks and done properly can be very effective.
2. Press Releases – From free Press Release distribution sites to paid versions, a well written press release can result in hundreds of backlinks if it gets picked up and widely used. Press Releases should be written to announce and event, new product or a change to your website which is newsworthy. A regular campaign of press releases can generate a lot of traffic.
3. Video Distribution – The use of video has been increasing consistently for years as the tools become more widely available at prices the average marketer can afford. Videos can range from a simple sequence of slides through to a highly polished film involving real people. Regardless of the format, video grabs attention and backlinks can be inserted either in the hosting site information area or there are features available that can now embed links into the videos themselves.
4. Posting Comments on Forums and Blogs – This has become somewhat abused with the advent of ‘robots’ which generate automatic postings and forums and blogs are becoming wise to these techniques. However, a genuine post or comment will be welcomed by any blog owner or forum owner if it adds value. Backlinks can often be inserted in the posts or comments themselves, in your signature area and in your profile page.
5. Social Bookmark Your Website – Social Bookmarking websites allow individuals to create a list of their favourite websites or webpages and share those lists with their friends and other people. The search engines see these lists as ‘votes’ for your website and each link on each list is treated as a backlink. Whilst the search engines have toned down the importance of this approach somewhat due to the automated software which has allowed the feature to be abused, it is nevertheless still a genuine way to build backlinks and should be in your toolkit.
A regular approach to backlinks incorporating the five techniques above will kick your website’s pages up the search engine results pages and onto a great page one position which will drive hoards of hungry customers to your website!
